Cars, Bikes, Trucks, and Ferrari wheels?! This week’s newsletter has everything!!

Warning - some elbow grease may be required.

  • Ferrari 612 Scaglietti Wheels - Eugene, Oregon - $1800

  • Trying to find a clean set of Ferrari wheels anywhere in the PNW can be a challenge. Finding a complete set of 2-piece Ferrari 612 Scaglietti wheels with brand new Michelin Pilot Sport tires for less than $2000, though, is enough to bring tears to my eyes.

  • The only other full sets of 612 Scaglietti wheels that are currently available for sale are listed on eBay here for $5,700 and here for $6,999. Several individual wheel listings can also be found on eBay for between $790 and $841 per wheel.

  • Fun fact - the 612 Scaglietti’s 5.8L V12 was factory rated @ 9mpg city.

Active eBay listing are not equal to closed BaT auctions, but they’re good enough…

  • 1973 Volvo 142 - Sparks, Nevada - $8,500

  • The Volvo 140 - it’s like a Volvo 240, but without all the *unnecessary* tech (i.e. airbags, air conditioning, and power steering). This model hit the bottom of its depreciation curve at some point in 2016, and has been steadily increasing in value ever since. Buy it for a good price, fix a few things, and you can certainly score yourself a nice little profit.

  • Several examples of the Volvo 142 have sold on Bring a Trailer. Good running & driving examples have brought anywhere between $7,000 in 2023 (for a carbureted project), all the way up to $50,000 in 2022 (for a fuel-injected restomod).

  • Fun fact: The 140 series was the very first of the brick-shaped Volvos.

I doubt this one would hit $44k, but there’s a good chance it could hit 5-digits!

  • 1974 Yamaha RD60A - Spokane, Washington - $1,800

  • Put some new gas in it, change the fluids & filters, put 100 miles on it by driving around your neighborhood, and list it for sale. Voilà - you just made a few thousand dollars!

  • Only three examples of the RD60A have sold on Bring A Trailer over the last four years. The first listing sold for $2150 in 2020, and the most recent listing ended with a sale at $4600 in 2022.

  • Fun fact: The RD60A could go 53mph with its 55cc 2-stroke engine

Quote of the Day

“If you are on Craigslist to get a sofa, and you see one for free. You think there’s something tragically wrong with it - maybe there are bedbugs. But if you see a sofa on there for $2,500, you think ‘oh man, that sofa must be amazing’. It’s the same thing with art - you set your own value.”

Jessica Hische, 2011
It wouldn’t be a Flip Forecast without at least a couple items that you should probably consider holding on to…

Here’s a few potential keepers:
  • When your wife says, “Honey, why is there a single cab German pickup truck with a 12-foot long utility bed in our driveway??”, just say:

    • Have you ever seen one before? Never.

    • Will you ever see one for sale again? No.

    • Should you buy it and keep it forever? Absolutely.

  • Do you want a 90s Swedish luxury sedan with a turbocharged 5-cylinder engine capable of comfortably propelling you to 155mph, while making the onlooking police officer think that you’re just a confused grandmother on her way to her synchronized swimming class? Well, this is the perfect car for you…

  • Are you in need of a safe, comfortable, fun, and reliable daily driver that will last for the next 10 years with minimal maintenance? Well, this is the perfect car for you…

  • A simple & reliable 5-speed Mercedes for a great price. If you can avoid the salty roads, this one might actually last forever.

  • The 2.2L naturally aspirated diesel engine will achieve 40mpg around town with ease, so long as the new owner can manage their morning commute with 72hp and 98 lb-ft of torque…

  • The Honda CB400-Four may be the single greatest starter bike of all time. It’s heavy enough that it feels like a real motorcycle, but it’s light enough that you can still pick it up easily after dropping it while parking.

  • These late 70s cruisers are known for their reliability, classic Japanese styling, and kickass exhaust note with the factory installed 4-to-1 headers.
