Hold onto your lederhosen - this week happens to be a particularly German one!

Warning - Some elbow grease may be required. No April Fools jokes are included in this edition.

  • 1967 Mercedes-Benz Unimog 404 - Abbotsford, Canada - $15,300

  • It’s a like a Hummer, but better in every single solitary way. Had the Germans invented the Unimog before 1946, they may have won the war…

  • If you thought it was hard to find a Unimog within your price range, try finding one that also has a clean title, current registration, current insurance, and a manual transmission. The only thing missing from this one is an OM617 turbo diesel engine!

  • This ‘67 appears to be in great shape, but who knows what sort of rust and electrical gremlins may appear during an in-person inspection… At least the buyer will have plenty of $$$ for improvements, at least at the current asking price…

  • Nearly 100 Mercedes-Benz Unimogs have sold on BringATrailer, fetching prices between $4,600 (for a non-running project) and $220,000 (for a fully-restored example). Nice trucks typically bring in at least $30,000.

As you can see, these utilitarian chariots come in many shapes, sizes, and prices…

  • 1998 Volkswagen Jetta TDI - Spokane, Washington - $4,500

  • The Volkswagen Jetta is undeniably the most important societal contribution that the nation of Germany has made since 1866. It’s a cheap and practical family sedan that’s good looking, fun to drive, and achieves phenomenal levels of fuel efficiency (40+mpg). This one might be hard to sell!

  • The description is very minimal, but mentions several big-ticket maintenance items that have been replaced recently. The more maintenance performed before your ownership, the better.

  • There has only been one 3rd generation Jetta TDI to sell on BringATrailer, and it was a 1997 model with true mileage of the vehicle unknown - selling for $10,500.

Nothing better than buying a fun classic at the bottom of the depreciation curve…

  • 1972 Vespa 50 Special - Portland, Oregon - $3,000

  • This particular scooter is a German market Vespa that comes equipped equipped with a 49cc 2-Stroke engine that was capable of hurdling you down the road at a blistering top speed of 40mph in forth gear. With the upgrades, this one can likely propel you to speeds over 50mph. Hold onto your Dirndls and pray that the brakes still work!

  • The original yellow paint looks to have great patina, and will certainly look kickass parked on the sidewalk riiiight outside your wife’s favorite restaurant.

  • Only a handful of 70s Vespas have ever been listed on BringATrailer.com, but they’ve all brought in between $4,200 and $5,800. If you can talk the seller down to $2,500, you’d have a real winner on your hands!

Name one thing that wouldn’t be made better by a nearby Vespa… I’m waiting…

  • 1970 BMW R75/5 - Fort Collins, Colorado - $4,500

  • The R75/5 sported a 745cc boxer twin-cylinder engine that produced 50hp, had a very low center of gravity, and could shoot the rider down the freeway at 105mph. Its gas tank was nicknamed the “toaster tank” in the early 70s, and a cult enthusiast following has existed ever since.

  • This particular example appears entirely unrestored, but very well maintained. Between that and the original tool kit, owner’s manual, shop manual, parts catalog, and advertising brochures - a submission to Bring A Trailer should be a walk in the park…

  • The R75/5 motorcycle has appeared on BringATrailer over 100 times since the website starting hosting auctions, most commonly selling between $5,000 and $13,000

A BMW motorcycle will solve every problem in your life - trust me on this…

It wouldn’t be a Flip Forecast without at least a couple items that you should probably consider holding on to…

Here’s a few potential keepers:
  • Are you ready for the impending collapse of civilized society and the civil unrest that will likely follow? No?

  • Great! That means you’re the perfect buyer for this 1979 6×6 Volvo - the only non-German vehicle in this week’s newsletter. Designed to be a reliable military transport/urban assault vehicle, the C306 also doubles as the ideal vehicle for the average mormon family’s field trip to a Chicago ice cream parlor (19-seat military vehicle)!

  • Mercedes G Wagon with an OM602A turbo diesel engine, a 5-speed manual transmission, front/rear lockers, and GREY PLAID INTERIOR???

  • Just go ahead and buy it already…

  • Imagine this - you walk into your garage and there’s a 1976 Porsche 912E with gorgeous bright red paint sitting right there in front of you.

  • That’s it - That’s my whole spiel…

  • Weren’t you just complaining about the price of gas and the traffic during your commute. Kill two birds with one stone; lane split through traffic while getting 45mpg on your 1199cc German adventure bike.

  • You know what they say - if it got to 63,000 miles, it’ll probably get to 100k miles…
